Having turned the problem this way and that, scrupulously examining it from the outside and from the inside, the inquiring collective mind of Irrational Games still found the truth. She hid in a solo performance. You heard right. In order to extend the life and glory of the legendary multiplayer series (and all previous Tribes are strong and only multiplayer), a paradoxical decision was made to bet on single-player. Although this move cannot be called unprecedented. Have you finally got acquainted with the recently released Counter Strike: Condition Zero?

And what is a “strong” single-player mode? I guess I won’t open America, noting that it’s not only and not so much smart enemy bots that split the player into a thousand and one pieces with a half-shot. If you look at AI, then all parts of Unreal Tournament for single-player projects can be tackled. No, a truly powerful single is, above all, a plot. An ornate story with breathtaking troubles and zigzag turns of events. And just with her at Tribes: Vengeance everything seems to be in order. The scriptwriters are preparing for us a truly interesting mystery, not sucked from a finger, but based on a serious literary work, sci-fi novel “Cryptonomicon” by Neal Stephenson. “What do we have little use of fiction literature in games?”, You ask, and you will be absolutely right in your indignation. However, Irrational Games does not offer us a rusty rail copying a storyline branch. Everything is much trickier! The developers decided to make the game … bipolar, or something. Oh how showy! Humanly: events are experienced and perceived by two different characters, acting with different goals at different times. Each of them has its own fate, as usual, evil and completely confused. We alternately appears in the person of one, then from the physiognomy of the other. At the end of the story, two lines of fate are interwoven into a single, in theory, insanely interesting knot. This is not a kindergarten affair in the spirit of the same Unreal Tournament, but a real “adult” intrigue!

CITIUS, ALTIUS, FORTIUS
Everything looks no less serious and dignified. Unreal graphic technologies brought to mind by Unreal are sure to preserve the glory of the technically modern and always spectacular for the series. After all, the previous Tribes Vengeance graphically kept pace with the times. True, adopting the Unreal Engine, the creators of Irrational Games were guided by its practical rather than aesthetic content. Unclear? Well, come on on your fingers. What is famous for the “unreal” graphics technology? In addition to highly detailed surroundings, dynamic shadows, spectacular color lighting and smooth animation, they hide in their bowels an amazing spatial scope. Of all modern engines, it is the Unreal core that is most suitable for the traditions of “tribalism”. Tribes: Vengeance has not lost such a sign of the series as endless fields and plains, although it significantly enriched the surroundings. If earlier fields and plains it all began, continued and ended, now now on gigantic expanses there are whole abandoned megacities with huge skyscrapers. This is where Unreal Engine’s ability to seamlessly combine open and closed spaces comes in handy. The list of locations has also been replenished with the enemy spaceship, enemy military bases and a number of places recommended for visiting.

Again, within the framework of the established “tribalistic” tradition, you will not be able to surf the above-mentioned sights along and across. Although already pretty boring buggies, tanks, jeeps and other all-terrain vehicles around the corner are not waiting for you. But at the disposal of the player a jet, designed for flying a satchel, a pair of some “skis” for sliding and a grenade launcher. What does a grenade launcher have in common with a vehicle? Yes you, dear, all Quake seem to have missed! The third alternative mode of movement in Tribes: Vengeance is represented by an ordinary rocket jump. At the feet of the trunk – and flew!

The developers promise to realize simply incredible speeds inside the game. Using various tricks, we can disperse our carcass in space right up to 100 km / h, which will be perfectly felt in practice. Indeed, the environment is now much livelier and richer: there are many static objects, against which the speed is easy to determine and feel.

WILL LIVE WILL SEE
Work on the Tribes: Vengeance still, as they say, no end. The release of the final version is planned only at the end of this year, although this does not mean at all that the creators will meet the deadlines. At this stage, the game seems very worthy and attractive, but I would not hurry to throw wreaths at her feet. The same Counter Strike: Condition Zero, designed to extend the life of a multiplayer game.
