Alpha Black Zero: Intrepid Protocol

The game is a kind of adaptation of his testimony before the tribunal. As part of a cunningly twisted story, Alpha Black Zero managed to shoot a lot of high-ranking government cones, for which Kyle was in the dock. By successfully completing the game and thus ending the fiery appearance in court, you will help Mr. Hardlow launder his name, restore justice, and extend the Alpha Black Zero division. A worthy goal, in general.
The game takes place on different planets and orbital stations, where simple colonists, mercenaries, and similar special units of the enemy confront a squad of seasoned professionals. We must pay tribute to the developers, the behavior of the first, second and third is different. So, ordinary militia colonists have a minimum of tactics, a rod with a weakly armed crowd and take to a stampede, as soon as they smell kerosene in the air.

Mercenaries, being no pros, behave more intelligently, are able to take advantage of the terrain in battle and are better armed. But the hottest fun begins near the end of the game with the release of enemy special forces on the scene. There will be somersaults, and heavy barrage of cover, and skirmishes from behind stones. In general, it’s not so boring anymore.

Actually, the game in the beginning could have looked much more fun, not too smart designers with a level structure. Licensing the Serious Sam engine from Croteam studio, homegrown “levelords” began to use it to the fullest and, in the end, lost control of the situation. As a result, we got huge, but terribly confusing cards, where the only right way (yes, it is the only one, in the footsteps of the designers of Cryteck (Far Cry) Khaeon for some reason did not go) is hidden so that hands fall. And there’s absolutely nothing to ride in the game, even as an extra-shooter. The squadron overcomes kilometers of enemy space exclusively on foot, continuously firing off from besieging villains.

The Alpha Black Zero: Intrepid Protocol genre is defined by the developers as a “tactical shooter,” so you are not alone on the warpath. The squad consists of five people, each of whom is ready to provide his mortal organism for the introduction of the player. To tell you the truth, the number of subordinates has practically no effect on the gameplay style. Alas, the chaotic Alpha Black Zero: Intrepid Protocol does not reach the really tactical Rainbow Six. Yes, subordinates can be commanded. Only the list of orders is banal to impossibility: “Attack!”, “Do not shoot!”, “Follow me!” and other baby talk. Yes, they themselves shoot well and seek shelter. Only often they “stick” somewhere, wonderingly thinking which way to get around the “suddenly arisen” obstacle in the way. Finally, tactics are minimized due to the same stupid level design that provides only one main path to the mission goal.

The tasks themselves are quite diverse, if you can speak of standard operations for assault, guarding, escorting, mining and clearing anything. Interestingly, before each mission you yourself are free to equip the guys. The available weapons groups are artificially divided into “stealth” (supposedly for silent sabotage) and “assault” (supposedly for high-profile raids). However, bearing in mind the almost complete absence of a real tactical element in Alpha Black Zero: Intrepid Protocol, you should not bother with the choice of ammunition. At least in single player.

The multiplayer mode completely changes emphasis and opens the game with a second wind. The developers managed to avoid the traditional deathmatch and capture-the-flags, building instead an excellent cooperative. The same storyline campaign is much more fun to go through with the five of us, when each comrade (sorry for the pro-Soviet pathos) gets one “alpha-doublezirovs”. Then you can safely talk about tactics, mutual assistance and the real atmosphere of team combat. It is a pity, single-player lacks all these charms. Playing solo in the face of Alpha Black Zero: Intrepid Protocol you will get only a nice middle-hand shooter. Although true fans of the genre, the game can be safely recommended for purchase.
