What lies in our single-disk version on our shelves is no more than once again the client part of the next global multi-user project. Do not be disappointed ahead of time – there are more opportunities for a single or even for a multiplayer game than in any Soldner or Joint Ops. But you certainly won’t feel the whole charm of an idea – but this idea has become famous up to the level of getting into Western news programs, and in our open spaces it has also been noted as an echo. It consists, in fact, that the developer proposed not only a realistic battle simulator “on behalf of the infantryman and his combat unit with the possibility of playing for any of the fighters”, but he tied the missions to real events taking place in the world and promised to issue new missions on on a regular basis. Moreover, accompanying each impressive package of accompanying information – photos, videos, satellite imagery, in a word, everything that remains behind the scenes of news releases.

The scheme, whatever you say, is original. She is, as it were, “the first sign of the new generation of media.” For which she deserved fame 🙂 But however, we are gamers deprived of connections to updates and all additional materials, as well as military news that the American consumer directly associates with the events of the game, in a word deprived of all the romantic halo – we can evaluate the product with an open mind , in terms of what it is like a game. Moreover, even though you can’t get away with playing friends against the other through the Internet, it’s quite possible to try cooperatively through missions to get through missions. Although, of course – there are a few frankly missions here.

However, the practical application of the game in business shows us that the product itself was made, to put it mildly, not a masterpiece. It is unlikely that it even reaches completely new creations “from Tom Clancy” – Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six. Graphics barely crossed the average level of “pre-breakthrough” visual forms (that is, before the FarCry-era, if I may say so): urban landscapes look even more or less nothing, but the interior of buildings is depressing with its wretchedness, and landscape scenes cause direct associations with low-budget (even Marine Sharpshooter II looks much better). The soldiers are not badly animated, shooting is shown quite clearly (though not very realistically) – but at the same time the whole gameplay is strangely discrete, there is no smoothness. Even on a very powerful machine, and no matter what options – a tribute to the unsuccessful implementation of multiplayer, this is our amateurish conclusion. Twitching does not deliver much discomfort, but does not contribute to pleasure.

Further more. Exposing realism to the “real level” – you condemn yourself to over-thorough over-caution, because there is something not noticed in the saves inside the mission, nor is it respawn. In addition, it is somehow not appropriate for American soldiers to suffer losses 🙂 But on realism, everything is simple here: he looked into the open gate that the shooter guards from that side – you will get instant death. And walk with dignity here – slap somewhere else. Having driven everything into an arcade model, you get invincible cyborgs who can’t rain their lead. But even as cyborgs, your soldiers continue to get confused in the three buildings so much that you have to constantly switch to them and bring them “to the main group.” True, the ability to command them a little helps, one by one, all at once.

But the most unpleasant discovery, of course, is when you understand how the levels actually work. Yes – maybe they were made using satellite images and real photos of the area. It could very well be. But, excuse me, the tactical battle simulator “rail”, without the possibility of free movement on the map – this is nonsense in the modern gaming world, this issue was resolved by the industry a long time ago. When you are led along a “winding path” in an Arab city – and you cannot, for example, open the gates, or enter any house you want, or just climb over a low concrete fence – this, I’m sorry, what kind of “real war” is speech? When you, carrying out a task on the ground, move towards the goal along a narrow “corridor-gorge” – what is this to be called in the 2004 product? Valusoft goes to wide open spaces, or what?

Total – a simple craft speculating on the marketing idea. A good way to withdraw money from the pockets of gullible Americans. Moreover, even most likely non-gamers (and in this sense, a thing can even play a positive role, introducing beginners to gaming). As a game in itself – Kuma \ War is mediocrity, and the only reason for its acquisition is a cooperative passage through the local network. And if you have already walked along and across the Ghost Recon – much more interesting and beautiful even today.
