Knights of the Temple

But in KotT – there is no particular magic 🙂 This is simply another mystical-medieval detective about how someone who looked good decided to open the doors of hell for another incarnation of evil, for which he did a lot of vile things. And as the main character stopped him. And along the way, to put together all the pieces of the puzzle, he brutally destroyed several thousand people and nonhumans with cold steel (or maybe there were already inhumane under the guise of a man – who will take them apart?). In general, seas of blood – almost literally. It all started with the fact that in the forest on a hunt a dying friend gives you a mysterious letter, adding a lot of scary words like “man of God”, “devil”, “last crusade”.

And when you returned with a letter to your native church (and you, as you might guess from the name – the hereditary Knight Templar, that is, apparently the Templar) – how there everyone is already obsessed with attacking you and you have to fend off your former comrades: crazy armed with sickles of medieval monks, wielding battle rolls like real kungfuists, guards and knights. Maybe it’s true that this is not your own temple, but just some – from the plot it is not very clear, especially since it is set out in horrific quality by commercials.

Knights of the temple
The horror in the commercials, though – is easily explained: the game is simply pinched from a DVD-format into two CDs, a drop in quality in this case is natural. Much more unpleasant is the other: this Primitive game in general, the main advantage of which must be considered powerful graphics – was conveyed to us by the creators of the magnificent Enclave, the game is superbly beautiful and at the same time a lot of deep and flexible in terms of gameplay. As a matter of fact, it was precisely due to its complexity and unusualness that Enclave took the hearts of serious gamers in due time. But many ordinary gamers may have lost it – they simply could not cope with many opportunities and the strength of enemies. Well, now this “injustice” is corrected – Knights are so simple in their straightforwardness that it’s theoretically impossible, probably, not to get past them, to get stuck somewhere well.

Knights of the temple
The bet in this case is apparently made on the effect of a “hypnotically stretching show”: extremely beautiful, cinematic, naturalistic battles follow one after another, unfolding against the backdrop of excellent scenery. Since the product is multi-platform, and may even be oriented to the Xbox, the engine did not go along the path of exploiting the modern capacities and bells and whistles of the latest video cards, which are the same Far Cry and Yager. To impress the audience, unusual solutions of completely traditional technologies were applied. And the most spectacular trick, perhaps, is the “game with the prospect.” When the game camera rotates, the geometry of the rooms appears so convex, so three-dimensional that, unwittingly, the question arises: “maybe all the previous 3d action games were deceiving us, were there something underestimated, robbing the viewer of three-dimensional impressions? … maybe “only now, finally, we see how it should be for real?” Because it’s very impressive, it gives a rare vividness to what is happening, and whether it’s an optical illusion or in fact a leap in calculation technology – it’s not even so important.

Knights of the temple
The second powerful factor in the attractiveness of the picture is the fantastic animation of all the characters. Models in and of themselves may not be very complex – but they always move incredibly naturally, applying a lot of extremely lifelike movements. Due to this, the battles look dynamic, “life-diverse” and do not bother in terms of “looking at them.” A variety of swings, strokes, secondary consequences in the form of repelling enemies and putting them out of balance. Spectacular “finishing off” of the dying on earth. The already mentioned blood, abundantly pouring on the surface. This is a cruel and spectacular show worthy of Hollywood. We must also take into account the fact that the models of the fighters, although not complicated, are richly decorated with very detailed textures, as well as all the objects on the stages – houses, walls, decorative decorations. Not supporting dynamic lighting properly, the game nevertheless boasts of good-looking static shadows and character shadows. The effects of fire, smoke and water – not daring to compete with the best examples of the genre, are nevertheless very, very not bad (however, on the Radeon9800pro the water is not bad everywhere, for some reason :), so this is probably a card gadget). Stage designs may not be very realistic – but almost always dramatic, and atmospheric precisely in the theatrical plan.

Knights of the temple
The fully automatic camera (with the possibility of minor manual adjustments) shows scenes from a wide variety of perspectives, skillfully “accompanies” the character, there are practically no complaints about her work. Some, of course, don’t really like the fact that they can’t look “forward”, they prefer the traditional camera “behind the hero’s shoulders” – they don’t know what they want, unhappy, it’s less beautiful 🙂
