FIFA Football 2004

The new game from the FIFA series pleased us long before the new, 2004, which flaunts an index to the name. And this is strange, given that in 2004 the European Football Championship in Portugal will be held. And all the finalists of the tournament have not yet been determined. Well, while we are waiting for the victory of the real national team of Russia over Wales in butt games, we can indulge in virtual football battles. By the way, the club orientation clearly indicates that EA Sports will prepare for us another surprise with a thematic add-on or a significant addition to the game dedicated specifically to the European Championship.
Will wait.

FIFA Football 2004
Well, now about the game itself. EA Sports is not going to lower the banner of the most advanced PC football simulator, and is clearly preparing for the battle for the championship on other gaming platforms. The gamepad will have to be here. Management principles have not changed. But significant improvements affected the physics of football players and their level of detail. Probably, developers worked all year, pulling textures on the faces of all the players of the Korean League. Although for us they are all on one face.

Alas, the Russian league did not appear in the game – although there are all the leading European countries, American and even Asian championships. So far they do without us at this celebration of football life. Well – in the Championship Manager, the Russian league also did not immediately appear. But it did appear! In the meantime, 17 leagues, 350 teams and about 10,000 players with their own characteristics and faces.

FIFA Football 2004
But the grass, shadows and spectators still leave much to be desired. It affects the status of the grand – there is nothing special to compare with. The lighting still has to work and work, and the viewers themselves do not leave the feeling of two-dimensionality. But it is rather nitpicking. Although, some game manufacturers did not skimp in their football simulators on flags waving in the stands and in the shadows, which depend on the player’s location on the field.

The sound in the game has also changed. Previously, a promoted singer was taken and several of his soundtracks were bought (the most obvious example is Robbie Williams). Now the game is filled with tracks from all over the world: Argentina, Germany, England … From a groovy jungle to almost national motives. So more fun, although there are no great hits among the soundtrack. The commentary on the game episodes with the name of the players participating in the moments now will not surprise anyone. We also have no complaints about the noise of the stands.

Speaking of managers! This is one of the main innovations in the game. The career mode has appeared. Career playing coach. The thing is quite interesting, but still controversial in a football simulator. Although not superfluous. Such a nice addition. Although a skilled player will defeat any team, building your own club with your own hands and head is quite interesting. The system itself is also original. Unlike the many managers who have flooded the market in recent years, the principles here are somewhat different. Everything is built on a certain number of points. You are assigned tasks before each season, points are awarded for them, they are fined for their failure. It is on points that evaluate the results of your team. Training points, tournament points, player strength points. Everything is on the numbers, from which sometimes the head goes around. But all the mechanics are visible. It is visible what needs to be added, and what to reduce.

Again listing the main game features of FIFA does not make the slightest sense. The system is refined to perfection. You can even try to think ahead and use a certain key to see the possible continuation of the attack and even give commands to players without a ball (to open better). The same gears, tackles, mounted and short gears, strokes.

The tactics of the teams became more interesting. And although the player himself determines it to a greater degree – after all, he usually controls a soccer player with the ball, but still you can achieve greater understanding with your computer teammates. Attacks can be carried out by the flanks, using ball control or mounted gears. To build defense on pressure or to force their players to use offside traps. The placement of players on the field has become more detailed. All this was present before, but for fans of managers you can not direct the game on the field directly – provide it to the computer, but observe it from the outside. It will turn out 100% manager – there are more than enough options to control the team.

The game still pleases us with a rich set of difficulty levels and its settings. Even a person who is completely far from football will be able to get behind FIFA 2004 and score a couple of goals at the minimum difficulty level – while enjoying it just like a well-made game (especially if you play not against the computer, but against another such “teapot”). Well, the “professional” is still tinkering with before reaching the same difficulty level.

Just try to win the championship of any country and become not only the best player, but also a manager.
